COVID-19 Safe Driving Lessons

To reduce the risks involved with spending time in close contact with someone from another household in a car, we will need to take the following precautions for your driving lessons to keep us all safe and to try to keep COVID-19 out of the car.

Crucial Information:

If you or anyone in your household currently (or in the last 10 days) has any of the symptoms of COVID-19, you must not have a driving lesson. Please text me immediately to cancel your lesson (the late cancellation of lessons charge will not be applied). The main symptoms are of course: a high temperature (this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back), a new continuous cough (this means coughing a lot for more than an hour or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours), a loss of, or change in, sense of smell or taste (this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything). Please use the NHS website to check if you are unsure. Anyone that cancels a lesson due to the above will not be able to have their next lesson until a minimum of 10 days have passed.

Before your lesson:

Before your lesson, I will text to confirm that you and those you live with are well, that you haven't knowingly been in contact with someone who has symptoms in the last 10 days and that you haven't been told by the NHS Test & Trace service that you've been in contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19. Please confirm that this is correct as soon as you can after receiving the text.

When I arrive to meet you:

Before leaving your house, school or place of work please wash your hands correctly for a minimum of 20 seconds. Where possible, please wear fresh, clean clothes and not something previously worn in a work environment. Please avoid bringing any personal belongings to the car. Any that you do, such as a phone, keys, bags etc. should be able to fit in your pocket. If this is not possible there will be a sanitised plastic container in the boot for you to store them during the lesson.

Please do not enter the car until I have confirmed that the car has been sanitized, clean and ready for you. I will meet you outside the car and for additional safety provide you with hand sanitiser (or you can use your own). If you would prefer to use disposable gloves - please bring your own and put them on just before getting into the car or alternatively I can supply them.

If we have to swap seats during the lesson, I will sanitise any of the controls that have been touched.

During the lesson:

To protect both of us, I will wear a mask, please bring your own face covering for your lesson and put it on before getting into the car (I have a small supply of masks to use if you are unable to bring your own). During the lesson we will, where possible, have the windows open to improve the ventilation in the car.

We may also take breaks outside of the car for fresh air, to discuss your goals and progress for the lesson and to give you some time without wearing a face covering. When the weather prevents this, we will continue to wear face coverings and remain facing forwards when discussing scenarios.

After the lesson:

Please remember to take any personal belongings with you and wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds as soon as you can.
Please be aware that if I, any one of my learners or our family members become unwell with COVID-19 symptoms I will contact you and any other learners who may have been in the car, following this it will be necessary to suspend lessons for a period of 10 days to protect us all.
